Research & Inspiration

Immersing myself in untamed landscapes, observing avian & botanical species, wild landscapes and experiencing the presence of animals has always been a source of fascination. These encounters have highlighted the profound role nature plays in human existence. Beyond providing sustenance and physical support, birds, animals and plants have woven themselves into the fabric of our lives, generating meaning, shaping narratives, and serving as metaphors in our language and literature.

Through extensive research over time, it has confirmed my long-standing philosophy that, in my view, animals are equal to humans. Just as I may be considered equal to a lion, all living beings are equal to one another. We are all interconnected and share a symbiotic existence, where each entity fulfils a unique role, seamlessly interwoven in the tapestry of life. This perspective fosters respect and compassion in all our interactions.

Drawing upon a wide array of literary genres and my personal experiences, my creative practice aim to explore the diverse ways in which both humans and non-human beings perceive and experience the world. Through my work, I strive to encourage contemplation in the viewer, hopefully facilitating a thoughtful and considered engagement with the natural world and the broader landscape. I explore the influence of geographical environments on our mental state, mood, and overall well-being, recognising the profound impact it has on each of us.

The ultimate purpose of my work is to infuse added meaning into the experiences of those who engage with it, inspiring the people to embrace, respect and ultimately protect of our non-human counterparts and their habitat, through increased knowledge and understanding.

In my commitment to fostering meaningful change, I actively engage in thoughtful projects such as the 'Ghost of Gone Birds' initiative at the Migration Festival in Camden, the PAN project on the Lizard in Cornwall, as well as collaborations with the BTO Red67book and Plover Rovers. Additionally, I proudly support charities who work towards the preservation and safeguarding of birds and animals, raising awareness and providing essential aid on local, national, and international levels. Through my teaching I help people to engage with, enjoy and respect nature through observation and research.

CV & Statement

My practice is broadly based, spanning painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture. I graduated with distinction from the MA Illustration: Authorial Practice program at Falmouth University, following the completion of my BA in Fine Art and PGCE.

I am a part-time Higher Education lecturer on an interdisciplinary BA (Hons) Art & Design Practice Course.

Living in Cornwall, my daily life is intertwined with various non-human species in a wild and ever changing landscape, including livestock, pets, and wild flora and fauna, all of which inspire and inform my practice. Through my work, I continuously strive to foster dialogue around the intricate relationships between humans, animals, and the natural environment, exploring, questioning, and celebrating these interconnected bonds.
